Description

An entry for TheFuzziestMushroom's contest.

Her OC, Ebola, drawn in Art Nouveau style
-/-/-

Ebola virus disease (EVD) is a haemorrhaging fever that end in death in 70-90% of its victims.
EVD has only ever broken out in African states, with the most recent outbreak affecting Nigeria, Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leon. The 2014 outbreak is the largest one so far, and there is no cure.
Ebola is transferred through bodily fluids and matter - blood, saliva, faeces, semen, etc. It's mostly Human-to-Human, but can also come from infected animals.
Ebola is now involved in some political shit, because one American doctor caught it, and was cured by an untested drug. The "cure" can't be distributed because not enough of it can be produced in a short time (with more people getting diagnosed with Ebola every day), and because it's completely untested.

im gonna have to say straight up that i feel genuinely horrible for making a fatal disease into something pretty, and im aware that im romanticizing it and im just sorry
it was a chance to spread the word, as well as practice and make a buck on the side
i am a little confused on why she's white, i mean, ebola primarily (well, almost exclusively) affects black people, so if she's a personification of the virus, it would make more sense for her to be black i mean???

This OC is from this webcomic, which is cool, so if you wanna read it, click the link.
Also, if you want to enter this contests, i'd ask you to please add something about the current Ebola outbreak in your description, so this information can go to more people.

i love art nouveau and i always wanted to try it
its just so
circle-y

i tried to put in loads of symbolism here so:
- the corner designs have the Biological Hazard symbol, as well as caduceus without the snakes. (a caduseus is the symbol with the two snakes wrapped around a stick with wings, and its greek, and snakes in ancient greece and rome symbolised wisdom and healing, and since there is no cure for ebola, the snakes aren't there)
- the squiggly squiggle in the bottom corner is the EVD's virion structure
- ebola causes people to bleed out and its horrible and guess what the red flowing scarf is

-/-/-

Kids,
Ebola is fucking horrible.
The death toll is passing 2,000. When I write that as a number, it seems very insignificant, but 2,000 people is more than all the people you know (or have even remotely heard of) at any given point in your life.
Ebola is genuinely, truly horrible, so please don't ignore it because "oh its in africa thats nowhere near me".
Do something about it.
Volunteer. Donate. If you're just a teen on the internet without that much power, get educated. Spread the word. Get this information to people who can do something about it.
Save people.
Don't live in a bubble.
Thank you, and peace.

This look's really nice o v o!!! XDDD
You know, Cherry //Thecreatorofthewebcomic,I'monlyco-creator:T// actually felt really terrible about making diseases into people... well 'people' .
But then she figured she could mess with all of her characters, for example: She made Ebola look like a dude, because she felt XDD Ebola didn't deserve to be very feminine. Idk, I can't really explain everything she did, but I enjoy her webcomic and being a part of it XDDD.
Though it was kind of ironic she was the one to create the webcomic, since she has a huge phobia of diseases, one of her biggest fears is actually the Ebola virus.
Hm, interesting.
